Report: UMass set to join MAC for all sports in 2025-26
UMass is slated to join the Mid-American Conference in all sports starting in 2025-26, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.
UMass is currently an independent school in football and plays in the Atlantic 10 conference for most other sports, including basketball.
It'll become the MAC's easternmost school, with most of the conference's teams located in Ohio and Michigan.
UMass' football team played in the MAC from 2012-15 before returning to being an FBS independent. The program hasn't won more than four games in its FBS tenure.
The school's men's basketball team is putting together its best campaign in nearly a decade under former South Carolina coach Frank Martin with a 17-10 record, while the women have stumbled to a 3-26 mark a season after head coach Tory Verdi left to coach Pittsburgh.
