UConn star James Bouknight will be sidelined indefinitely after undergoing surgery Tuesday on his left elbow, the school announced Wednesday.

The 20-year-old sophomore suffered the injury Jan. 5 when a defender fell on his outstretched arm while he was attempting to secure a loose ball during a win over Marquette. He missed UConn's subsequent victories over Butler and DePaul.

Bouknight leads the Huskies in scoring at 20.3 points per game. He's also averaging 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.5 steals over six appearances this season.

There was no timetable provided for Bouknight's return, UConn said. Following the Huskies' victory Monday over DePaul, head coach Dan Hurley said he didn't believe the guard would be out for very long.

"If James has to miss time, it won't be a lot of time," he said, courtesy of the Hartford Courant's Dom Amore.

UConn re-entered The Associated Press Top 25 this week for the first time since 2016-17. The team's next scheduled game is Jan. 18 at home to St. John's.
