Flagg sets NBA single-game scoring record for teenager

Cooper Flagg had another signature performance Thursday, posting a career-high 49 points in the Dallas Mavericks' 123-121 loss to the Charlotte Hornets.

The 19-year-old's 49-point outburst is the highest-scoring game by a teenager in league history.

Flagg also joined LeBron James and Anthony Edwards as the only teenagers in NBA history to record multiple 40-point games, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

In addition, Flagg broke the Mavs' single-game rookie scoring record that he shared with Mark Aguirre, who had his jersey retired Thursday evening.

Flagg shot 20-of-29 from the field and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. He also added 10 boards and three assists in 38 minutes.

He's the first rookie since Michael Jordan in 1984-85 to have a 49-point, 10-rebound game.

Only 13 players have hit the 49-point mark in their debut campaign, according to The Athletic's Christian Clark.

Despite all the accomplishments, Flagg's efforts weren't enough, as Hornets rookie Kon Knueppel recorded a career-high 34 points to spoil his former Duke teammate's big night.
