Report: Celtics shopping Simons for frontcourt help
The Boston Celtics have put Anfernee Simons on the trade market, sources told Amazon Prime Video's Chris Haynes.
Boston is seeking frontcourt help in exchange for the eighth-year guard, adds Haynes.
The Celtics acquired Simons from the Portland Trail Blazers during the offseason as part of the Jrue Holiday trade.
Simons has been an effective lead option off the bench, averaging 13.9 points and shooting 39.5% from deep across 47 appearances this campaign. However, the 26-year-old is on the final season of a four-year, $100-million contract.
Boston has primarily started Neemias Queta at the five with Luka Garza serving as his backup.
The Celtics' frontcourt depth took a hit over the summer when they dealt Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team trade and lost Luke Kornet to the San Antonio Spurs in free agency.
Boston is tied for second in the East with a 29-18 record entering Thursday's play.
