Mavs sign Kidd to multi-year contract extension
The Dallas Mavericks signed head coach Jason Kidd to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Tuesday.
Kidd has spent the past four seasons with the Mavericks, posting a 179-149 record. He guided the franchise to their first Finals appearance in 13 years during the 2023-24 campaign.
"J-Kidd's basketball resume is one of the best in the game, and through every situation he has proven he's the right person to lead the Mavericks," said general manager Nico Harrison, according to The Associated Press. "He has a track record of developing some of the best talent in the league as well as the ability to connect with players to bring out the best version of themselves."
Kidd drew interest from other teams in recent years. The New York Knicks attempted to lure Kidd away over the summer after dismissing Tom Thibodeau, but their request to interview the Mavs coach was reportedly rejected.
Kidd's previous head coaching stops include the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks. The 52-year-old was also an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers for a pair of seasons, including their title-winning campaign in 2020.
