Popovich recovering from stroke, return timeline undetermined
San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich suffered a mild stroke earlier in November at the team's home arena, the franchise announced Wednesday.
The Spurs added that Popovich has started a rehabilitation program and is expected to make a full recovery. A timeline for the 75-year-old's return to the sidelines hasn't been determined.
Popovich was previously listed out with an undisclosed illness. Assistant coach Mitch Johnson has taken over for the veteran bench boss, compiling a 3-3 record in his place.
The oldest coach in NBA history, Popovich has spent all 29 seasons of his career with the Spurs. He's the league's career leader in wins with 1,390 and has won 170 playoff games and five championships with San Antonio.
Popovich was admitted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.
