Edey: Draymond's trip 'wasn't a basketball play'

Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey doesn't think very highly of a transition foul by Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green that took place during Friday's 123-118 defeat.

Green fell after losing possession of the ball while driving into the paint. He dropped toward Edey, who took the ball and passed it forward on the fast break. The Warriors veteran then hooked his elbow around Edey's foot, causing the center to trip over.

"It definitely wasn't a basketball play," Edey said postgame, according to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk.

Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins wasn't fond of the play either.

"We were about to start the break, and (Edey's) been playing really hard to try to outlet, and Draymond grabs his leg and pulls him down, and it doesn't get reviewed," Jenkins said.

"So I know there's a code in this league, and I don't understand how that wasn't reviewed. Very disappointing."

Edey finished the game with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Green was later ejected for receiving two technical fouls in 33 seconds during the last two minutes. Both he and head coach Steve Kerr declined to comment directly about the officiating, but Kerr described the last quarter as "disgusting," as the Grizzlies brought the game from 24 points back to within five.

The two teams have become familiar with each other, largely thanks to a contentious playoff series in 2022. Kerr said at the time that then-Grizzlies wing Dillon Brooks "broke the code" by committing a Flagrant 2 foul on Gary Payton II, while Ja Morant said the same of former Warriors guard Jordan Poole after he hurt the Memphis star's knee.

The Warriors improved to 10-2 with the victory, while the Grizzlies fell to 7-6.
