Houston Rockets forward AJ Griffin is seriously considering stepping away from basketball, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania and Kelly Iko.

The two sides are preparing for the former first-rounder's departure from the game, adds Charania and Iko.

The Rockets acquired Griffin this summer from the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team deal.

The Duke product suited up for Houston's Summer League squad, averaging 11.6 points, three boards, and 1.2 steals across five appearances.

Griffin spent the first two seasons of his pro career with the Hawks. He showed promise as a rookie, averaging 8.9 points and shooting 39% from deep.

However, Griffin quickly fell out of the rotation during his second campaign and was a DNP-CD for a number of contests.

Griffin was a four-star recruit out of high school and a McDonald's All-American. He committed to Duke for his lone collegiate season, earning ACC All-Freshman Team honors.
