Report: Bucks among contenders to sign GTJ
The Milwaukee Bucks are among several teams interested in signing free agent wing Gary Trent Jr., league sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Trent is exercising patience to find the best opportunity for his seventh season in the NBA, according to Charania. He's considered the top player remaining in free agency.
His previous team, the Toronto Raptors, reportedly did not offer him a contract over the summer, clearing him to sign elsewhere. Trent averaged 13.7 points on 39.3 shooting from deep with the Raptors last season.
The Bucks are in the market for a new starting shooting guard after losing Malik Beasley to the Detroit Pistons. If the 25-year-old were to sign with Milwaukee, he could reunite with Damian Lillard in the backcourt, as the two spent 2.5 seasons together with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Milwaukee is also expected to set up a free agent workout this week in Las Vegas, with 11-year veteran Will Barton among the players slated to participate, according to Charania.
The Bucks added veterans Delon Wright and Taurean Prince in free agency.
Milwaukee finished 49-33 in the Eastern Conference. The franchise parted ways with coach Adrian Griffin despite his 30-13 record, replacing him with veteran bench boss Doc Rivers, who led the team to a 17-19 record. The injury-ridden Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the playoffs.
