Kyrie feels like 'sky's the limit' for NBA career at age 32
Kyrie Irving isn't thinking about retirement amid his 13th season.
When asked Thursday how much time he thinks he has left in the NBA, the Dallas Mavericks star indicated that he still has plenty left in the tank.
"I haven't even given that much thought, to be honest with you," Irving told reporters. "This has been the longest season I've played in a while, it's been six years, so I'm looking at the big picture in a way that I probably was not ready to look at in my early 20s or late 20s. The way technology is today, the way I take care of my body everyday, and the way I have the opportunity to learn more about my body as I get into my 30s, I'm appreciating.
"My mind continues to get sharper. My physical tools are obviously naturally going to deteriorate, which I can appreciate too, so adding new skill sets or adding new nuances to my game where I can be successful at this level, especially going against a more athletic league or a faster league - and you got me over here speaking like I'm 38 already. But at 32 right now, I just feel like the sky's the limit."
Irving appeared in 58 regular-season games during the 2023-24 campaign, averaging 25.6 points, five rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest. It was his highest total of games played since the 2018-19 season, when he appeared in 67 matchups.
The eight-time All-Star has two years left on his current deal with the Mavs, which includes a player option for the 2025-26 season.
