The Boston Celtics are signing guard Jrue Holiday to a four-year, $135-million contract extension, his agent Jason Glushon told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Holiday is declining his $37.3-million player option for the 2024-25 season to sign the deal, which will keep him under contract through the 2027-28 season.

The veteran guard's extension will save the franchise several million dollars on the cap next season, which will also help it retain the core of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, and Derrick White.

"In addition to being one of the more accomplished players in the league, Jrue is an elite teammate and competitor," Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said in a statement. "He is simply a person who raises everyone's level around him. He combines an unselfishness to do whatever is best for the team with an edge to take on any challenge at any time. We are grateful that Jrue is a Celtic."

Holiday will become the fourth player aged 33 or older to sign a contract with more than $100 million guaranteed, joining LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Celtics teammate Al Horford.

The 33-year-old has averaged 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in his first season with the Celtics. Boston acquired him in the offseason from the Portland Trail Blazers after the Milwaukee Bucks sent him there in the Damian Lillard blockbuster. Holiday was crucial to the Bucks winning a championship in 2021.

He's helped guide the Celtics to an NBA-leading 62-17 record. While his stats have decreased from last season, the veteran guard is shooting a career-high 43% on 3-pointers, including 62% on triples from the corner.

He signed a similar four-year, $135-million extension with the Bucks in 2021.

Holiday is averaging 12.5 points, the lowest since his rookie campaign in 2009-10. He's tied for second on the team in assists (4.9).
