Report: Maia-Muhammad fight set for UFC 263
The UFC is finalizing a welterweight matchup between Demian Maia and Belal Muhammad for UFC 263 on June 12, sources told ESPN's Brett Okamoto.
Contracts have not been signed but verbal agreements have been made, Okamoto adds.
Maia, a two-time title challenger, is coming off a knockout loss to Gilbert Burns last March. The 43-year-old won his previous three fights before the Burns matchup and sits at No. 8 in the welterweight rankings.
Muhammad most recently had a no-contest against Leon Edwards in March due to an accidental eye poke in his first-ever UFC main event. The No. 13-ranked welterweight pushed for a rematch, but Edwards instead secured a surprise bout with Nate Diaz in May.
Muhammed was riding a four-fight win streak prior to the no-contest result, including victories over Dhiego Lima and Lyman Good.
