Dodgers' Roberts wants to manage U.S. at 2028 Olympics
Los Angeles Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts wants to manage Team USA at the 2028 Olympics in L.A. if Major League Baseball allows its players to participate.
"I want to manage the Olympic team," Roberts told Dylan Hernandez of the California Post. "That's what I want to do. In L.A., I want to manage that team."
The 53-year-old manager, whose father spent three decades in the military, believes he's the perfect candidate for multiple reasons.
"I went to school here. I manage the Dodgers," he said. "It's a no-brainer."
The 2028 Games wouldn't be Roberts' first time representing the United States. He was part of the U.S. squad that finished second at the 1999 Pan American Games.
MLB players typically don't suit up for Olympic competition, but some of them, such as Bryce Harper and Shohei Ohtani, have expressed interest in participating in Los Angeles.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred has said that he's increasingly confident big-leaguers will participate in the event.
