Report: Angels, Rendon agree to buyout
Anthony Rendon's time with the Los Angeles Angels is over after the two sides agreed to a contract buyout, a source told The Athletic's Sam Blum.
Rendon's deal will reportedly be restructured to defer his remaining salary over the next three-to-five years, but it's not known how the payout will be distributed, adds Blum.
The 35-year-old two-time Silver Slugger was set to earn $38.6 million next season.
The team now has the financial flexibility to be more active in free agency.
The Angels signed Rendon to a seven-year, $245-million contract in December 2019 following the infielder's strongest MLB campaign.
Rendon hit a career-high 34 homers and led the majors with 126 RBIs during the 2019 season. He finished third in NL MVP voting that year and batted .328 during the Washington Nationals' run to a World Series title.
However, Rendon struggled to stay healthy with the Halos, making only 257 appearances over five seasons. He underwent season-ending hip surgery before the 2025 campaign.
