Agent Scott Boras reached out to the Mariners to let them know Alex Bregman, his client, would consider Seattle as a destination, a source told Adam Jude of the Seattle Times.

The Mariners have an opening at third base but typically don't splurge on free agents, with Robbie Ray in 2022 and Josh Naylor this winter being the exceptions.

Bregman would be a viable solution for the Mariners at third. They project to begin the season with 25-year-old Ben Williamson at the hot corner after Eugenio Suárez became a free agent. The Mariners might be interested in a reunion with Suárez, but not as an everyday third baseman, Jude reports.

Bregman is one of the top free agents still on the market after Kyle Schwarber, Pete Alonso, and Edwin Díaz signed at the winter meetings.

The 31-year-old Bregman opted out of the final two seasons of his three-year, $120-million deal with the Boston Red Sox to test the market again after hitting 18 home runs and posting an .821 OPS in 114 games.

The Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, and Detroit Tigers have also been connected to Bregman.
