Report: Red Sox eyeing Realmuto in free agency
The Boston Red Sox are showing interest in signing three-time All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Realmuto could create a strong tandem behind the plate with Carlos Narváez, who finished sixth in 2025 AL Rookie of the Year voting.
Connor Wong was Boston's backup catcher this season, but he posted a 39 wRC+ with zero home runs in 63 games after a strong offensive showing in 2024.
The 34-year-old Realmuto hit 15 homers with 50 RBIs and a .700 OPS across 134 contests this year in his worst offensive campaign since his 2015 rookie season. However, the two-time Gold Glove winner finished in the 99th percentile in pop time and 95th in caught stealing.
Realmuto is on the open market after spending the last seven years with the Philadelphia Phillies. He and his family own a home in Clearwater, Florida, where the Phillies' spring training facility is also located.
Philadelphia is expected to attempt to re-sign Realmuto because the club doesn't have an internal replacement, according to Rosenthal.
