Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is "pretty unlikely" to be available if the team has to play a wild-card series, manager John Schneider said Sunday, according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.

The Blue Jays are hopeful the 27-year-old would be ready to play in the American League Division Series, Schneider added.

Bichette hasn't appeared in a game since Sept. 6 after suffering a left knee sprain during a home-plate collision against the New York Yankees.

The infielder was having a terrific campaign before the injury, slashing .311/.357/.483 with 181 hits, 44 doubles, and 94 RBIs.

The Blue Jays can clinch the AL East and a first-round bye if they defeat the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.
