Hershiser brings up Astros' cheating scandal amid blowout of Dodgers
Dodgers broadcaster Orel Hershiser took a jab at the Houston Astros for their infamous 2017 sign-stealing scandal while watching Los Angeles suffer an 18-1 drubbing at Dodger Stadium on Friday.
"I don't want to open an old wound, but in some ways, they're swinging at these breaking balls like they know what is coming," Hershiser said after outfielder Cam Smith doubled off right-hander Ben Casparius for the Astros' third straight extra-base hit in the third inning.

Hershiser also made a quip at Houston during a 2020 game between the two clubs when he said, "guessing's harder than knowing" after Jose Altuve struck out looking. Former All-Star Preston Wilson didn't appreciate the remark at the time, suggesting Hershiser was known for having abnormal movement on his pitches during an 18-year career that included a 1988 NL Cy Young.
The Astros defeated the Dodgers in the 2017 World Series but were punished two years later for stealing signs illegally with a video system and banging trash cans to inform hitters about incoming pitches.
Then-manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow were let go by the club after MLB suspended both for one year following its investigation. Houston was also fined $5 million and lost its first- and second-round picks in the 2020 and 2021 drafts.
