Report: Brewers, Quintana agree to 1-year, $4.25M deal
The Milwaukee Brewers agreed to a one-year deal with left-hander Jose Quintana, sources told FanSided's Robert Murray.
Quintana's deal is worth $4.25 million, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The contract will pay him a base salary of $4 million, and he'll receive the other $250,000 as a roster bonus.
Quintana tossed 170 1/3 innings for the New York Mets last season, authoring a 3.75 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 31 starts. He also ranked fourth in ground-ball percentage (47.4%) among NL starters and was in the 89th percentile for fastball run value during the 2024 campaign.
The 36-year-old is a 13-year veteran who has pitched for seven teams throughout his career, including stops in the NL Central with the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Quintana should join Freddy Peralta, Nestor Cortes, Aaron Civale, and Tobias Myers in the Brewers' rotation. Brandon Woodruff is expected to return this season after missing the entire 2024 campaign due to a shoulder injury.
Milwaukee also has Aaron Ashby as a potential rotation option. However, Ashby left Monday's Cactus League outing early after suffering an oblique strain, manager Pat Murphy announced, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Murphy added that the team won't have an initial timetable for Ashby's return until he undergoes tests Tuesday.
