Giants name Zack Minasian general manager
The San Francisco Giants have named Zack Minasian general manager, the team announced Friday.
Minasian previously served as the club's vice president of professional scouting.
"There is so much to appreciate about this organization - an existing nucleus of talent on both the major-league roster and throughout the minor-league system, a passionate fan base, an incredible alumni group, and the organization's commitment to the community," Minasian said in a statement, according to Janie Mccauley of The Associated Press.
Minasian's brother, Perry, is the longtime GM of the Los Angeles Angels. They are the first pair of brothers to be GMs at the same time in MLB history, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale.
"We are excited for Zack to take on this new role," Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey said, according to Nightengale.
"Zack has brought a wealth of knowledge and a lot of experience to the organization in his six years here. He's also a thorough talent evaluator, but beyond that, he's a terrific person our community will be proud of. We believe that, in this new role, he will immediately make us better as a team and organization, and I look forward to working alongside him."
San Francisco named Posey its president of baseball operations Sept. 30 after firing Farhan Zaidi. Posey then announced his intention to hire a new GM after moving Pete Putila into a new role.
Minasian is the 11th GM in Giants history.
