Dodgers capitalize on Yankees defensive implosion to tie Game 5 in 5th
The Los Angeles Dodgers tied Game 5 of the World Series in dramatic fashion after a series of miscues by the New York Yankees in the top of the fifth inning.
Yankees center fielder Aaron Judge dropped a routine fly ball off the bat of Tommy Edman, allowing the first two runners to reach base.
Will Smith then reached after Anthony Volpe threw the ball in the dirt to third base which loaded the bases.
Yankees ace Gerrit Cole proceeded to strike out Gavin Lux and Shohei Ohtani. Things took an unfortunate turn for Cole, however, after he failed to cover first base on a ground ball by Mookie Betts, allowing a run to score.
Freddie Freeman took full advantage of the mistake, singling home two runs to make it 5-3.
Cole got ahead of the next batter, Teoscar Hernández before he ripped a ringing two-run double over the head of Judge in center field to tie the game at five.
