Giants third baseman Matt Chapman said he's interested in remaining with San Francisco on a long-term pact but is waiting for the team to kickstart contract negotiations.

"That's not really my focus right now; my focus is on trying to make the playoffs," Chapman said Thursday when asked about his desire for a new deal, according to Evan Webeck of The Mercury News. "But the Giants, I love being here, and they know that I want to be here. They know that I'm open to that. I'm kind of just waiting on them."

The Giants are open to inking the four-time Gold Glover to a long-term contract and are expected to approach his camp, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Chapman will likely decline his $17-million player option for 2025 to test free agency again after joining San Francisco in the offseason. He's having a bounce-back campaign following an inconsistent year at the plate with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2023.

"I don't think I was as comfortable maybe in Toronto the last couple years as I am here," Chapman added. "Sometimes your environment has a lot to do with that, and it's just a good environment for me. I definitely enjoy playing on the West Coast. And playing for BoMel (manager Bob Melvin), I'm comfortable."

The 31-year-old entered Saturday's action with 19 homers, 61 RBIs, a career-high 12 stolen bases, and a 120 wRC+ over 121 games in 2024. His 4.1 fWAR is also the third-highest total among MLB third basemen, trailing only José Ramírez and Rafael Devers.
