The Detroit Tigers designated third baseman Gio Urshela for assignment, the team announced Friday.

Urshela, who joined the Tigers on a one-year, $1.5-million contract in the offseason, hit five homers with 37 RBIs and a .619 OPS over 92 games this season.

The 32-year-old veteran has also played for Cleveland, the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, and Los Angeles Angels over a nine-year career.

Urshela owns a .273/.318/.412 slash line with 69 long balls and 317 RBIs over 756 contests in the majors.

Meanwhile, the Tigers promoted infielder Jace Jung, the club's No. 4-ranked prospect, according to Baseball America.

Jung, who was taken with the No. 12 pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, is the younger brother of Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung. The 23-year-old Jace recorded 14 round-trippers with 60 RBIs and an .831 OPS over 91 games in Triple-A in 2024.

Detroit also selected the contract of infielder Trey Sweeney. The 24-year-old was acquired in the Jack Flaherty deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline.

Outfielder Akil Baddoo was optioned to Triple-A and reliever Easton Lucas was designated for assignment to complete the roster shuffle.
