Henry: Monaco need players who don't only 'think about their careers'

AS Monaco manager Thierry Henry reacted to Tuesday's Coupe de France defeat to second-tier Metz by hinting that he has removed some members of his first-team squad from consideration for selection.

"This weekend (against Dijon), it's going to be war," Henry told reporters on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Julien Laurens.

He added: "There comes a time when you have to have players who want to save the club and not think about their careers." He did not elaborate on which players he was referencing.

Since Henry replaced Leonardo Jardim in mid-October, Monaco have won just two of 12 league matches, and they crashed out of the cup to Metz just days after being humiliated 5-1 at home to Strasbourg. A report on Wednesday suggests Henry could be on the chopping block already.

However, sources told Laurens that the principality club is willing to give the former French international more time to rectify his poor start. That appears to have been evident in the backing he has received from the club's ownership in bringing in the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Naldo this month.

"The most important thing is to save the club; my future is not a problem," Henry said on Thursday.
