Report: Alpine expected to drop Doohan for Colapinto
Another driver swap appears to be in the works as Alpine is ready to replace Jack Doohan with Franco Colapinto for the next grand prix in Imola, Andrew Benson of BBC reported Monday.
The switch is close to being finalized, and Doohan is slated to stay with Alpine in a new role if he's dropped from his race seat, Benson adds.
Doohan's long-term future with Alpine has been subject to speculation since the French team signed Colapinto from Williams during the winter break. Doohan has done little to silence the buzz, as he's just one of four drivers yet to score points this season. He retired on the opening lap of the Miami Grand Prix due to a collision with Liam Lawson.
Colapinto made nine race starts with Williams last season, collecting five points. He flashed early with an eighth-place finish in Baku, his second start with the team.
