England pulls off another great escape to beat Italy, reach Euro 2025 final
England performed another miraculous rescue to beat Italy 2-1 after extra time Tuesday and reach the Euro 2025 final.
Trailing 1-0 to Barbara Bonansea's 33rd-minute opener, Lionesses head coach Sarina Wiegman made substitutions and in-game tactical tweaks to try to keep her side's title defense alive. And just like in the Lionesses' quarterfinal against Sweden, 19-year-old Michelle Agyemang popped up with a late equalizer - this time in the 96th minute - to send the game into extra time.
Then, as the additional half-hour neared its conclusion and a shootout looked certain, England was awarded a contentious penalty. Chloe Kelly was decisive for her country once again, burying the rebound after her initial attempt was saved.
"It feels unbelievable. Such a great feeling. This team deserves nothing but that. Three finals on the bounce and we want more," Kelly told ITV, according to BBC Sport.

Italy was denied its first final in 28 years by England's latest late heroics. Captain Cristiana Girelli, who was substituted in the 64th minute with an apparent injury, was openly crying as the emotional Azzurre tried to make sense of what happened when extra time ended.
England's Dutch boss, meanwhile, is left with some selection dilemmas ahead of Sunday's final against Spain or Germany. Should Wiegman start Agyemang and Kelly after their crucial contributions from the bench against Sweden and Italy? Will Jess Carter return to the starting lineup?
But the celebrations from the England players and their fans in Geneva suggested those questions were shelved until the following morning. Somehow, the reigning champion is just one match from winning it again.
"We have the hope, we have the belief, and we have the quality, so we just need to keep at it and keep working hard at training to make sure we're right next weekend," Kelly said.
