Report: Mourinho open to Arsenal job

Jose Mourinho would be interested in replacing Arsenal manager Unai Emery in the event Emery's fired, sources told ESPN FC's Rob Dawson.

Emery's job is safe for now, according to Dawson, but the Spaniard remains hugely unpopular due to his handling of Mesut Ozil. The club's highest earner and creative playmaker has a missed large chunk of the season for tactical reasons.

If he were to take the job, Mourinho would reportedly demand funds for signings.

Mourinho has waited in the wings for the right opportunity to present itself. Sacked by Manchester United in December 2018, he has since spent his time working as a pundit for Sky Sports.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said earlier in October the Portuguese turned down an interview with the Ligue 1 side because he'd already chosen another club.

Borussia Dortmund emerged as a potential destination last week, but club director Michael Zorc said the rumors "lack any substance."

The prospect of Mourinho joining Arsenal is peculiar given his runnings-in with former Gunners boss Arsene Wenger during their heyday. Mourinho compiled a fantastic record against Wenger and the north London side, losing only two of 20 matches.
