Colombia dominates Paraguay to cap perfect run in Group B
Colombia continued its dominant showing at the 2019 Copa America on Sunday, outclassing Paraguay 1-0 to finish comfortably atop Group B with three straight wins.
Los Cafeteros were rarely threatened by a Paraguay side that entered with two draws in the tournament through the opening matches. After a sustained period of pressure, Gustavo Cuellar gave his side a deserved lead in the 30th minute, finding the back of the net from a sharp angle.
It was essentially one-way traffic from there, with Colombia dominating the run of play and finding holes throughout the Paraguayan backline. Luis Diaz appeared to give Colombia a two-goal advantage midway through the second half, blasting a half-volley past the 'keeper following an impressive bit of control. Unfortunately for Colombia, VAR found Diaz had controlled the ball with his hand and overturned the marker, keeping the score at 1-0.
It wouldn't matter in the end, as Colombia continued owning possession for the remainder of the match, taking the spoils with an impressive performance.
Colombia has yet to concede in the tournament, finishing the group stage with a combined scoreline of 4-0. Los Cafeteros now wait for Monday's match between Uruguay and Chile to see who awaits them in the quarterfinal.
