Tottenham are off to the semifinals of the Champions League after squeaking past Manchester City in a nail-biter on Wednesday.

City jumped out to a 3-2 lead after a frantic opening 21 minutes to level the two-legged affair 3-3 on aggregate at the Etihad. But the visitors ended the night on top, despite losing the match 4-3, courtesy of Fernando Llorente's late goal and a controversial VAR ruling that denied City a dramatic winner in injury time.

Here's a look at some notable statistics after Wednesday's seven-goal thriller in Manchester:

2 - Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte is the only player to commit two defensive errors leading to goals in a single Champions League game this season.

3 - Kevin De Bruyne provided three assists against Spurs, the first player to record that many since Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs in 2007.

4 - The first four shots of the contest found the back of the net.

7 - Spurs are the seventh different English club to advance to the Champions League semifinals.

9 - Ajax, Tottenham's next opponents, have reached the semifinals of the Champions League/European Cup nine times in their history.

10 - Raheem Sterling becomes first English player to score two goals in a Champions League quarterfinal since Frank Lampard bagged a brace against Liverpool 10 years ago.

12 - Son's 12 Champions League goals are the most by an Asian player in the competition.

21 - This was the first game in Champions League history to boast five goals scored within the opening 21 minutes.

57 - Tottenham last reached the semifinal stage of the Champions League/European Cup 57 years ago.

1981 - Ajax and Tottenham have only played each other twice, with the Dutch side winning 6-1 over two legs during the opening round of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1981.

2009 - England hasn't sent two or more representatives to the semifinals since 2009 (Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United).
