(AP) — Owen McCown threw for 254 yards and a touchdown and UTSA scored the opening 27 points of the Myrtle Beach Bowl to cruise past short-handed Coastal Carolina 44-15 on Monday.UTSA (7-6) broke away in the second quarter by scoring a touchdown on three straight drives for a 21-0 lead. McCown was 14 of 17 in the first half, including a 6-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Overmyer. McCown also scored on a 35-yard run after breaking two tackles near the end zone. The other score was a 9-yard touchdown run by Brandon High.Coastal Carolina (6-7) finished the first half with just 140 total yards — 60 coming on the final drive. The Chanticleers punted on five straight drives to begin the game — with the longest possession lasting seven plays for 25 yards.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>UTSA added short field goals on its opening two drives of the second half, while Coastal Carolina started with two straight three-and-out drives. But UTSA’s Chris Carpenter returned the ensuing kickoff for a 93-yard touchdown to make it 34-7.It was the largest margin of victory in the five-year history of the Myrtle Beach Bowl.MISSING KEY PLAYERSHudson, a third-string quarterback, made his first career start for Coastal Carolina, which was without starter Ethan Vasko and backup Noah Kim. Vasko and Kim combined for 2,353 yards with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Baker Mayfield came home to Texas looking to keep his Tampa Bay Buccaneers on track for the playoffs.Instead, they'll need some help.Cooper Rush threw a touchdown pass and Brandon Aubrey kicked two 58-yarders among four field goals Sunday night, boosting the Dallas Cowboys to a 26-24 victory that cost the Bucs control of their playoff fate.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>The end of a four-game winning streak left Tampa Bay (8-7) even with Atlanta atop the NFC South with two games remaining. The Falcons have the tiebreaker because they won both meetings with the Bucs, who are on a four-year playoff run."We lost, we fell back in the pack," coach Todd Bowles said. "We've got to eat it, can't spend too much time on it. We had our chances. We've got to take care of us and let everything else take care of itself."A three-year playoff streak for the Cowboys (7-8) ended when they were eliminated from postseason contention before the prime-time kickoff. (AP) — Tyreek Hill has not shied away from accountability during one of the least productive seasons of his nine-year career.After a poor performance in Miami's 29-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Hill was candid about the reason for a puzzling decline in his connection with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa this season.“I feel like at the end of the day, I need those valuable reps with Tua,” Hill said. “Those vet (veteran) rest days are starting to show.”<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>It's common for NFL teams to give veteran players days off during the week, especially toward the end of the season when injuries seem to pile up. Hill has missed three practices over the past month for either rest or personal reasons, including this past Wednesday for what the team called rest/wrist. I’ve just got to go out there and execute. Once we hit the field, I was good.”Jessie Bates and Matthew Judon each had a pick-6 to carry Atlanta (8-7) to its second straight win after a four-game losing streak put its postseason hopes in jeopardy. (AP) — A federal judge set a Jan. 8 hearing to hear NASCAR’s motion to throw out an antitrust lawsuit filed against the stock car series by Michael Jordan-owned 23XI Racing and Front Row MotorsportsThe two teams are <a href="https://apnews.com/article/nascar-jordan-antitrust-lawsuit-talladega-ecf00cbe79c0ab5d366651a53d9652a3">suing NASCAR</a> and were granted a preliminary injunction Wednesday that will allow them to compete as chartered teams in 2025.U.S. District Court Judge Kenneth D. Bell said that “NASCAR fans (and members of the public who may become fans) have an interest in watching all the teams compete with their best drivers and most competitive teams.” NASCAR has indicated it will appeal his ruling and wants his injunction partially blocked pending the appeal.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>The hearing is the latest in the legal brawl between the two Cup Series teams and the sanctioning body that began late last season.
