The 2020 tennis calendar has taken its latest hit due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the ATP confirming Tuesday that the 2020 Citi Open has been canceled.

Scheduled to start Aug. 13 in Washington, D.C., the Citi Open was originally set to mark the return of the ATP Tour following the suspension of play in March.

"It's disappointing that due to these unprecedented times, the Citi Open will not be able to go ahead this year," ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said. He added: "Unfortunately, for the moment, there are still large factors at play which are outside of our control."

The ATP announced it will continue to work alongside the United States Tennis Association (USTA) with regard to the Western & Southern Open and the US Open, both of which are scheduled for August in New York.
