Sidney Crosby exited Canada's dramatic quarterfinal win over Czechia on Wednesday with an apparent lower-body injury and didn't return.

Crosby took hits from Radko Gudas and Martin Necas before going back to the locker room in the second period of Canada's eventual 4-3 overtime victory.

Despite losing its captain, Canada managed to avoid a massive upset and reach the semifinals. Nick Suzuki scored late in the third period to tie the game, and Mitch Marner gave the Canadians a 4-3 victory in the extra frame.

"This will not be Sid's last game at the Olympics," Canada head coach Jon Cooper said after the win, according to Sportsnet's Kyle Bukauskas.

The 38-year-old Crosby is competing in his third Winter Games and first since 2014. He had six points in three games entering Wednesday's contest.

Czech defenseman Gudas said postgame that he was just trying to finish his check and that he hoped Crosby was OK, according to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun.

Nathan MacKinnon was moved back to Canada's top line with Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini after Crosby's injury, and Suzuki replaced Crosby in between Marner and Mark Stone.

Celebrini took Crosby's spot on Canada's top power-play unit.

Crosby has 27 goals and 59 points in 56 games to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins in scoring this season.
