Dream part ways with coach Tanisha Wright

The Atlanta Dream parted ways with head coach Tanisha Wright after three seasons, the team announced Wednesday.

Wright is the third WNBA coach to be relieved of their duties after Curt Miller and Teresa Weatherspoon were dismissed by their respective clubs last week.

"Tanisha was an important contributor in our efforts to rebuild the Dream, and we want to thank her for her hard work and dedication to the Dream over the last three seasons and wish her the best in the future," Dream general manager and executive vice president Dan Padover said in a statement.

"At this time, we believe a change is needed to lead our players and organization to the next chapter in our efforts to be a top team in the WNBA."

Wright went 48-68 during her tenure, including a 15-25 mark this season. The 40-year-old finished runner-up in Coach of the Year voting during her first campaign at the helm, while Atlanta star Rhyne Howard won Rookie of the Year.

However, the Dream didn't generate much postseason success under Wright, falling in the opening round in each of the last two campaigns.

Wright spent two years as an assistant coach with the Las Vegas Aces before taking the Atlanta job.

Wright also enjoyed a lengthy WNBA playing career that included stints with the Seattle Storm, New York Liberty, and Minnesota Lynx. The former first-round pick earned her lone title in 2010 and was a five-time WNBA All-Defensive first-team selection.
