Canada captain Alphonso Davies was forced out of Sunday's Nations League third-place match against the United States early in the first half with an apparent right knee issue.

The 24-year-old first went down after a challenge from U.S. forward Patrick Agyemang in the opening minutes and needed treatment on the pitch. He tried to continue playing but was clearly in discomfort and was ultimately substituted in the 12th minute.

Davies, who went straight to the dressing room after coming off the field, told Kristian Jack of OneSoccer that he was "good" despite having to leave the contest, according to Matthew Scianitti of TSN.

He returned to the bench with ice on his knee.

Head coach Jesse Marsch replaced Davies with Niko Sigur and flipped right-back Alistair Johnston to an unfamiliar left-back role.

Johnston also inherited the captain's armband.

Canada eventually came away with a 2-1 victory to clinch third place in the competition.

Mexico won the CONCACAF Nations League title later in the night, beating Panama by the same scoreline in the tournament final.
