The United States defeated Canada 4-3 in overtime on Sunday to win gold at the 2025 Women's World Championship.

Tessa Janecke scored the winning goal late in the extra frame after Canada botched a line change. USA's title is its second in three years and 11th in tournament history.

Both countries scored two goals in less than three minutes in the second period. Minnesota Frost star Taylor Heise put the U.S. ahead in the third period with a 5-on-3 goal. The opportunity arose after Laura Stacey was penalized for charging American netminder Aerin Frankel. Gwyneth Philips replaced Frankel for the remainder of the contest after the collision.

Sarah Fillier forced overtime with an equalizer with five minutes left in regulation.

Canada outshot the U.S. 10-7 in overtime but lost to its biggest rivals for the second time in the tournament. The United States won the preliminary round meeting 2-1 on April 13.

USA and Canada have met in the gold-medal game of the tourney in all but one year since 1990. Five of the past seven title games between the two countries have been decided in overtime.
