Sirens trade Saulnier to Fleet for Girard
The New York Sirens traded forward Jill Saulnier to the Boston Fleet for forward Taylor Girard, the PWHL announced Tuesday.
Saulnier has zero points in five games this season. The 32-year-old played just 52 seconds in New York's 3-2 shootout win against the Minnesota Frost on Wednesday. She tallied one goal and two points in 18 games last campaign.
Girard also has zero points in five contests. Boston scratched the 26-year-old from its most recent matchup, a 2-1 overtime win against the Ottawa Charge on Jan. 11. Girard recorded four goals and six points in 23 games with Boston last season.
An upper-body injury sidelined Saulnier for four contests in December.
Girard and Saulnier signed two-year contracts in the league's first season and will be free agents at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
Saulnier is a two-time Olympian and won gold with Team Canada at the 2022 Games. The Nova Scotia native has also played at four world championships, claiming gold in 2021.
Girard was a standout in the PHF with the Connecticut Whale before the PWHL was formed in 2024. She totaled 21 goals and 52 points in 44 games over two seasons with the Whale.
New York selected Saulnier 40th overall in the inaugural PWHL draft, while Boston snagged Girard 51st overall.
It's the second trade in the PWHL this season. The Toronto Sceptres acquired defender Savannah Harmon and forward Hayley Scamurra from the Ottawa Charge for defender Jocelyne Larocque and forward Victoria Bach on Dec. 30.
