The season's second major is on deck, with the PGA Championship set to begin Thursday from Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

Valhalla will host its fourth PGA Championship and first since 2014, when Rory McIlroy won his most recent major title. It was also the stage for Tiger Woods' epic duel against Bob May in 2000, which produced one of Woods' most iconic moments of his career.

Let's look at the betting odds for a 2024 PGA Championship field that'll try to make more history with the Wanamaker Trophy on the line.

The favorites

Player Odds
Scottie Scheffler +350
Rory McIlroy +700
Brooks Koepka +1200
Xander Schauffele +1400
Jon Rahm +1800
Ludvig Aberg +1800

All odds via theScore Bet

Scottie Scheffler is the obvious favorite at +350 - an implied probability of 22.2%. If you've paid attention to any amount of golf this year, you'll know the incredible run Scheffler's on. He's won four of his past five starts - including the Masters and Players Championship - and his only non-victory was a second place.

Next is McIlroy at +700 (12.5% implied probability). The four-time major winner is coming off two consecutive wins (one was a team event) and will attempt to snap his major drought while in peak form.

Defending champion Brooks Koepka is +1200 and won his most recent start on the LIV Tour. He'll be vying for his sixth career major, which would enter him into the conversation as one of the top 10 golfers of all time.

When you include Xander Schauffele at +1400, the top four players on the oddsboard amass an implied win probability of 49.1%, meaning it's a coin flip between them and the rest of the field.

The challengers

Player Odds
Bryson DeChambeau +2500
Cameron Smith +2800
Collin Morikawa +2800
Max Homa +2800
Tommy Fleetwood +3000
Joaquin Niemann +3000
Patrick Cantlay +3300
Justin Thomas +3500
Viktor Hovland +3500
Wyndham Clark +3500
Cameron Young +4000
Hideki Matsuyama +4000
Jason Day +4000
Will Zalatoris +4000
Dustin Johnson +4500

Thanks to the short prices on Scheffler and Rory, the odds for these mid-range golfers are longer than normal. This next tier houses a bunch of great players who are hunting for their first major title - including Max Homa, Joaquin Niemann, Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland, and Cameron Young - and can be found as long as +4000.

Long shots

Player Golfer
Tyrrell Hatton +5000
Byeong Hun An +6000
Jordan Spieth +6000
Matt Fitzpatrick +6000
Sungjae Im +6000
Tony Finau +6000
Min Woo Lee +7000
Sahith Theegala +7000
Sam Burns +7000
Sepp Straka +7000
Shane Lowry +7000
Corey Conners +8000
Si Woo Kim +8000
Talor Gooch +8000

Adding 16 LIV Tour players to the PGA Championship field undoubtedly strengthens the group competing in the year's second major and makes this week's field at Valhalla the strongest of 2024. You know you have a strong field when great players like Matt Fitzpatrick and Sam Burns - generally priced closer to +3000 during PGA TOUR events - are +6000 and longer.

Finally, oddsmakers don't like Woods' chances of contending at Valhalla. Alongside players such as Aaron Rai and Thomas Detry, Woods is priced at +15000 to claim his 16th major championship in only his second start of the year.
