Woods withdraws from Hero World Challenge with plantar fasciitis

Tiger Woods will be hosting this week's Hero World Challenge as per usual, but he won't be competing.

The 15-time major champion withdrew from the event due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot, he announced Monday. Woods said he developed the ailment while practicing for the tournament, and that it's made it difficult for him to walk.

He still plans to play in The Match on Dec. 10 and the PNC Championship five days later. On Friday, he committed to competing in the latter along with his son Charlie. The duo finished second in the tournament last year.

Woods hasn't played in a PGA TOUR event since the Open Championship in July. He shot 9-over par and missed the cut.

The Hero World Challenge has been held since 2000, and it's taken place in The Bahamas since 2015. It's an unofficial TOUR event, so competing players don't get FedEx Cup points or official prize money.
