The Detroit Red Wings signed defenseman Ben Chiarot to a three-year contract extension carrying an average annual value of $3.85 million, the team announced Wednesday.
The 34-year-old has recorded four goals and seven assists in 54 games this season while averaging 21:07 per contest. His minus-7.5 expected defensive goals above replacement mark ranks last among all NHL defensemen this campaign, per Evolving-Hockey.
Among Red Wings blue-liners, only Moritz Seider is under contract for longer and carries a higher cap hit.
Chiarot is in his fourth season with the Red Wings. He's also played for the Winnipeg Jets, Montreal Canadiens, and Florida Panthers across his 13-year NHL career.
