Leonard left the ice under his own power but was officially ruled out with an upper-body injury before the start of the third period.
Trouba was initially assessed a penalty but it was rescinded upon review. The rearguard has a lengthy history of controversial hits throughout his 13-year career and has been suspended twice.
Trouba entered the contest with 13 points in 27 games this season while averaging nearly 22 minutes per night.
Leonard's notched 18 points in 28 games to start his first full NHL campaign. The 20-year-old had a career-best four-point outing in his previous contest.
