The Tampa Bay Lightning signed defenseman Ryan McDonagh to a three-year contract extension with an average annual value of $4.1 million, the team announced Thursday.
McDonagh is playing out the final season of a seven-year, $47.25-million deal signed with the Lightning in 2018. Tampa Bay dealt the rearguard to the Nashville Predators in 2022 due to salary cap restraints but reacquired him before the 2024-25 campaign.
The 36-year-old has notched six points in 15 games this season while averaging over 20 minutes per night, which he's done in 15 of his 16 NHL campaigns.
McDonagh was a key piece of the Lightning's back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2020 and 2021.
