Wild sign Gustavsson to 5-year, $34M contract
The Minnesota Wild signed goaltender Filip Gustavsson to a five-year contract with a $6.8-million cap hit, the team announced Saturday.
The extension comes days after franchise player Kirill Kaprizov inked the biggest contract in NHL history in total money and AAV. Vladimir Tarasenko and Mats Zuccarello are still prominent unrestricted Wild free agents heading into the new season.
The 27-year-old netminder posted a .914 save percentage with a 2.67 goals-against average across 58 games last season. He recorded five regular-season shutouts. In six playoff outings, he had a 2.71 goals-against average with a .913 save percentage.
Gustavsson is entering the final season of a three-year pact inked with the Wild in 2023 that carries a $3.75-million cap hit. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. He's currently in line to be the 11th-highest paid goaltender in the 2026-27 campaign.
A second-round pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2016 draft, Gustavsson was traded to the Ottawa Senators in 2018 and made his NHL debut with Ottawa in 2021. He's set for his fourth full season with the Wild after moving from the Senators in 2022.
