Islanders sign Palmieri, Boqvist to new deals
The New York Islanders announced new contracts for forward Kyle Palmieri and defenseman Adam Boqvist on Friday.
Palmieri's pact is a two-year deal with an average annual value of $4.75 million, reports Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, while Boqvist's is a one-year contract worth $850,000, per Friedman.
Both of these deals were agreed to before the Islanders hired Mathieu Darche as their new general manager, adds Friedman.
Palmieri was scheduled for unrestricted free agency this summer. The 34-year-old recorded 24 goals and 24 assists in 82 games this past season, his fifth with the Isles. He arrived in New York via trade from the New Jersey Devils during the 2020-21 campaign.
Boqvist was set to become a restricted free agent. New York claimed the 24-year-old off waivers from the Florida Panthers in January, and he notched eight points in 17 appearances with the Isles. Boqvist was the eighth overall pick in 2018, but hasn't found his footing in the NHL after previous stints with the Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Florida Panthers.
The Islanders enter the offseason with approximately $20.9 million in cap space after Palmieri's and Boqvist's new contracts. New York also owns the first overall pick in the upcoming draft.
