It was a storybook ending for Marc-Andre Fleury's last game at the Bell Centre.

Fleury, who grew up an hour outside of Montreal in Sorel, Quebec, stopped all 19 shots he faced in the Minnesota Wild's 4-0 road victory against the Canadiens on Thursday.

"I had some watery eyes at some points," Fleury said postgame, per The Athletic's Joe Smith. "I tried to shake it off. And when the puck dropped, (tried) to be ready. But obviously (a) lot of emotion. Definitely special."

It's the 76th career shutout for Fleury, moving him into a tie with Ed Belfour and Tony Esposito for 10th on the all-time list. He's also the first goalie ever to record shutouts as both a teenager and at age 40 or older.

"It was poetry. It was perfect," teammate and fellow Quebec native Frederick Gaudreau said.

Fleury, who's retiring at the end of the season, received a loud standing ovation when he was recognized for his legendary career on the video board during a break in the action.

"It was like a concert," Marcus Foligno added.

The 40-year-old preserved his shutout with an acrobatic two-pad stack in the third period.

Fleury was named the first star of the game. He received another loud standing ovation after the final horn.

He came back out for one last curtain call.

Fleury now owns a 28-13-6 lifetime record against the Canadiens.

The future Hall of Famer has collected 572 wins, three Stanley Cups, and a Vezina Trophy in his storied 21-year career.
