Hurricanes re-sign Necas to 2-year, $13M deal
It appears Martin Necas is staying put after all.
The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed the restricted free-agent forward to a two-year contract with a $6.5-million average annual value, the team announced Monday.
He'll be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the deal.
"Martin is an immensely skilled player who provides a scoring threat whenever the puck is on his stick," Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky said in a statement. "He will play a key role in the continued success of our franchise, and we're excited to have a multi-year contract done."
Necas was rumored to be on the trade block this offseason, but a deal never came to fruition. About half the teams in the league reportedly inquired about his availability at one point.
The 25-year-old recorded 53 points in 77 games this past season as a winger. He notched a career-high 28 goals and 43 assists in 2022-23 while splitting time as a center and winger.
The Hurricanes selected Necas 12th overall in 2017.
Seth Jarvis is Carolina's last remaining RFA. The club has about $6.5 million in remaining cap space.
