Eagles' Brown admits he let frustration 'boil over'
Star wideout A.J. Brown addressed the cryptic message he posted after the Philadelphia Eagles' 31-25 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, explaining Wednesday he'd been frustrated by the team's offensive struggles.
Brown was held to two catches for 7 yards on nine targets in Sunday's victory. He didn't speak with reporters afterward. Instead, he tweeted a screenshot of a Bible verse that read: "If you're not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw. Don't make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way."
Brown talked to reporters Wednesday for the first time since the game. The Ole Miss product clarified that while he was frustrated, he wasn't trying to send a message to anyone in the Eagles organization.
"Obviously, Sunday after the game, I let my frustrations boil over," Brown said, according to 94WIP's Eliot Shorr-Parks. "I didn't speak to the media. I had a chance to correct my frustrations and I continued to let it boil over. And that's on me. I take full accountability on that.
"My message on Twitter wasn't directed at anyone in the building. Not my coaches, not my quarterback, my GM, nobody. Like I said, I take full accountability. I have open communication with all my coaches and with my quarterback as well."
Brown added that he believes it's normal to be frustrated, especially given the standard that the Eagles hold themselves to. The three-time Pro Bowler said he wants to help spark Philly's offense since the defense and special teams have been "carrying" the team through its first four matchups.
Philadelphia ranks 31st in the NFL in passing offense, averaging 138 yards. Brown has just 14 catches for 151 yards, putting his streak of 1,000-yard campaigns in jeopardy.
He isn't the Eagles' only offensive star struggling to repeat his production from last season. Running back Saquon Barkley is averaging 59.3 yards per game after leading the league with 2,005 rushing yards to the tune of 125.3 yards per contest in 2024.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts completed 15 of 24 pass attempts for 130 yards and two touchdowns but was 0-for-8 in the second half against Tampa Bay.
Brown said he continues to work on his chemistry with Hurts and insisted he's happy in Philadelphia. While he expressed regret that his post caused so much buzz, he doesn't think it's a bad thing to want the ball.
"My teammates know that when the game's on the line, look at me," Brown said. "Shoot, everybody in the stadium should know that. That's not a secret. I'm not shying away from that."
The Eagles (4-0) host the Denver Broncos (2-2) on Sunday.
