The San Francisco 49ers are nearing a multi-year extension with star linebacker Fred Warner, sources told NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan.

Warner's new deal is expected to make him the league's highest-paid inside linebacker, Chan reports. The four-time first-team All-Pro defender had two years remaining on his five-year, $95-million extension signed in 2021.

San Francisco's front office has prioritized keeping its veteran core intact. Quarterback Brock Purdy signed a five-year, $265-million extension Friday. Tight end George Kittle agreed to terms on a four-year, $76.4-million contract in April.

Warner noted how different the 2025 season has become for the 49ers after Kittle and Purdy both received new deals.

"I think it's obviously worked out really well being able to knock those things out earlier," Warner said. "Allowing us to focus just purely on ball and getting better as a team, so things are moving in the right direction."

The Niners revamped their roster earlier this offseason by letting go of several veterans. Deebo Samuel, Aaron Banks, Dre Greenlaw, and Leonard Floyd were among the most notable departures.

Warner has recorded 897 tackles, 15 forced fumbles, 10 interceptions, and 10 sacks over seven seasons. The four-time Pro Bowler has only missed one game since being drafted in the third round out of BYU in 2018.
