Report: Metcalf requested trade 'multiple times' before Steelers deal

DK Metcalf wanted out of Seattle long before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in early March.

The former Seahawks wideout reportedly requested a trade multiple times in recent offseasons, sources told ESPN's Brady Henderson.

Seattle didn't plan on trading Metcalf this offseason, Henderson added. Ultimately, the Seahawks had to consider the wide receiver's unhappiness and the large contract he would command before they decided to move him.

Metcalf's reported preferred landing spots were the Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans. However, the Steelers were willing to give Metcalf a five-year, $150-million deal on top of Seattle's desired draft compensation of a second-round pick.

The Patriots were also interested in Metcalf, but he didn't want to go to New England, Henderson reported.

Seattle also released veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett this offseason after a 10-year run with the team. The Seahawks signed veteran Cooper Kupp to a three-year, $45-million deal to ease the losses of Metcalf and Lockett.

Metcalf, 27, has one second-team All-Pro nomination and two Pro Bowl nods during his six-year NFL run. He has 6,324 receiving yards and 48 touchdowns in 97 career games.
