49ers CEO: We want Purdy 'here for a long, long time'
San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York expressed confidence in locking up Brock Purdy long term ahead of extension talks with the quarterback.
"I know we want Brock here for a long, long time, and I believe we will make that work," York said, according to Josh Dubow of The Associated Press.
York added that he spent time with Purdy's agent last week.
Purdy is eligible for an extension entering his fourth NFL campaign in 2025, the last year of his rookie contract. He's set to earn $5.2 million next season, per Over the Cap.
The 25-year-old has been an incredible asset for the 49ers, not only because of his play on the field but also because of his minuscule salary.
Purdy earned less than $1 million each season from 2022-24 due to his draft position, an immense discount for a starting quarterback. San Francisco selected him with the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He's expected to become one of the game's highest-paid players this offseason.
The one-time Pro Bowler led the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game as a rookie and Super Bowl LVIII last season before missing the playoffs in 2024.
Purdy said in January he was hoping for a quick, drama-free negotiation.
"I want to be able to handle business the right way and do it in a respectful manner," he said at the time.
The 49ers will have some big decisions to make this offseason regarding highly paid players on their roster. Having Purdy at such a low cap hit previously allowed the team to hand out lucrative extensions to several of its stars, but that could change with the quarterback set to earn significantly more.
San Francisco has already permitted wideout Deebo Samuel to seek a trade.
