Jets interview Vrabel for head coach opening
The New York Jets interviewed Mike Vrabel for their head coaching opening, the team announced Friday.
Vrabel spent this season as a consultant with the Cleveland Browns. His contract with Cleveland expired Monday, opening the door for Vrabel to begin interviewing with other teams, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Vrabel, 49, was the head coach of the Tennessee Titans from 2018-2023. He posted a 54-45 regular-season record and made the playoffs in three of his six seasons. Tennessee made it to the conference championship in 2019 and secured the AFC's top seed in 2021.
Vrabel was fired after going 13-21 in his final two years. After flourishing with Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry at the beginning of Vrabel's tenure, the Titans' offense ranked 25th in success rate from 2022-2023, per Ben Baldwin's database.
The Jets began their coaching interviews earlier this week by speaking with former Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera.
New York fired head coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start to the campaign. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has the team sitting at 4-12 heading into Sunday's season finale.
